Phase Entry Method (Indirect / Upon Awakening)

By Eugene Raphael · Technique · Lucid Dreaming & the Phase · Liminal Light Lab

Inner silence first: this method works best from a quiet mind. If you haven't yet, start with Inner Silence.

In short: This is my current method, built on indirect techniques. I achieved the phase 4 times in one night this way, using my LucidMe mask on direct method after waking in the middle of the night.

Goal: Wake up, stay completely still, and enter the phase (lucid dream / out-of-body state) using short technique cycles.

1. Set the intention before sleep

As you fall asleep, repeat a clear intention such as:

"I will wake up without moving and immediately enter the phase."

2. Upon awakening (natural or alarm)

Do not move your physical body at all.

Keep your eyes closed.

Immediately begin the technique cycle.

3. Technique cycle (repeat as needed)

Do these in order, spending only a few seconds on each:

Rubbing hands. Vividly imagine and feel yourself rubbing your hands together. Focus on the sensation of friction, warmth, and movement.

Peering into the void. With eyes still closed, look into the blackness/space in front of you as if trying to see into a dark room or void. Let any imagery, shapes, or light that appears grow stronger.

Phantom running (or phantom walking). Feel yourself running or walking forward without moving your real body. Focus on the sensation of movement, wind, or momentum.

After one short cycle of the three techniques:

Immediately try to separate (roll out, stand up, sink, levitate, etc.), or

Try to appear at a predetermined location (e.g., your kitchen, a familiar room, or any chosen place).

If it doesn't fully work, quickly run the three techniques again and then attempt separation/appearance once more.

4. Time limit

Keep the entire attempt under about 1 minute. If nothing happens, relax and fall back asleep with the same intention so you can try again on the next awakening.

Notes from my practice

If one technique starts working, stay with it. Feel your hands? Don't switch; try to stand up.

Fine-tune the time between cues. I started with two or three minutes between wake-up cues, then gradually worked up to five. I also experimented with eight and ten minutes. The right spacing gives you just enough time to drift into a micro-sleep before the next cue, so adjust it to your own sleep.

Exit techniques belong after a micro-sleep, not the instant a cue sounds while you're still awake.

This method is my own working version of the indirect techniques taught by a phase-method teacher. See how I use it with a mask in the LucidMe review, and what happened with no mask at all in The Particle Soup.

From my journal

Apr 26, 2024. Rolling out with the jolts:

"Kept getting jolts, head 'rushes.' When getting them I was 'rolling' to my right. Didn't work on the first attempt, but I felt 'dislocated.' Kept rolling with the jolts, timing it. After three or four attempts I rolled off the bed and onto the floor… I summoned the intent of opening my eyes and the downstairs area of my house lit up brightly."

Nov 5, 2024. A stable exit:

"Rolled out anyway. Looked at hand, looked around. Stable. Blasted through doorway. Went outside. Floating downstairs. Kept looking at hands… Came back. Forgot immediate re-entry."
