Onion Skins and the Swaying Body
By Eugene Raphael · Night Report (Mini) · Liminal Light Lab
Outcome: a screen of slightly altered realities, and a dreaming body that swayed inches away from my physical one.
Two short entries that stuck with me because they felt less like dreams and more like glimpses of how perception is layered. From my journal.
The swaying body
Back of the head. Afternoon. Waiting for imagery, then focused on movement centered around my head. Immediately I began "swaying" back and forth; could feel my dreaming body moving left and right, a few inches away from my physical body each direction. Almost forgot I was focused on my center of will to induce the swaying. I just recreated it at Walmart and experienced a visceral sensation of swaying. It almost makes me feel nauseous. That same day I'd had a dream that came close:
I had been driving and fell asleep. While asleep I drove down a weird path and was lost. I almost realized I was dreaming.
Skins of an onion
Horizontal rolling waves, like a screen. Lines dividing it. Each was the same view but different. Slightly altered realities. Skin of an onion. Memory of still being in the second attention upon awakening, or perhaps heightened awareness. Particularly in the morning. August 12, 2024
Takeaway
The swaying was easy to trigger once I found it, even standing in a store in broad daylight, which tells me the separation sensation isn't only for sleep. The onion skins were the opposite: rare, and gone by midday. Both point at the same idea, that the view I take for granted is just one layer.
